Gladiators Making Their Move
The Chabot baseball team has surged into contention in the Coast-Golden Gate.
The Gladiators swept a two-game series with longtime rival College of San Mateo last week, 22-10 and 8-3. They will travel to West Valley on Tuesday and host West Valley at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Chabot (10-12, 4-2) is right on the heels Mission (11-9, 3-1) in the tightly bunched conference.
Red-hot Francisco Pedraza highlighted the 8-3 win with a double, triple and four RBI, and David Langer had two RBI. Jalen Bustos and designated hitter Jacob Rodriguez both scored two runs. Reliever Adrian Padilla allowed three hits and no runs over 2.2 innings.
Langer, the shortstop, is ranked 10th in the state in batting average at .434 and is tied for seventh in RBI with 29. Langer is 11th in the state in on base percentage at .547.
In the wild 22-10 win over CSM, the teams combined for 33 hits on a wet day. Pedraza was 3 for 6 with a double, triple and six RBI. Langer was 4 for 5 with five runs and two RBI and second baseman Cole Coffey scored four times and had two hits.
Tyler Rourke had three hits and three RBI.
