Only Rain Can Slow Chabot Baseball

The only thing that could slow down the Chabot baseball team last week was the weather.

After the Gladiators won their fifth game in a row, 4-3 over West Valley on March 20, the scheduled game against West Valley on March 22 was moved to March 26 because of wet weather. Saturday's game with De Anza was also cancelled.

Chabot received a quality start from TJ Meyers (1-0) on March 20. He allowed three hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings, striking out seven and walking two. Grant Mendoza got the save.

Chabot scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead and then held on.

The bottom third of the Chabot batting order had a big game, as Tyler Rourke, Jacob Rodriguez, and Francisco Pedraza each had two hits and a run scored. Rodriguez and Pedraza, who doubled, both had RBIs.

The Gladiators (11-12, 5-2 Coast-Golden Gate) entered the week in first place in the tightly bunched conference, with CSM (16-9, 6-3) and Mission (12-11, 4-3) close behind.

During a busy week, Chabot will host Canada-Redwood City at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27. It will travel to Monterey Peninsula Thursday and will host Hartnell at 1 p.m. on March 31.
