Resilient Chabot Baseball Team Ready For CCCAA Regional Playoffs

The never-say-die Chabot baseball team (22-18), fresh off an exciting final week of the regular season, has earned the No. 14 seed for this week's CCCAA NorCal playoffs.
Chabot earned dramatic wins in extra innings over De Anza, 2-1 on April 26 and Gavilan, 10-9 on April 27 to nail down a playoff spot.
The Gladiators, who finished tied for second in the Coast Golden Gate, will travel to No. 3 seed Sacramento City (27-13) for a best-of-three series Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5.
The games are set for 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday, followed by a third game at 3:30 p.m., if necessary.
Last week was one for the ages, full of clutch performances and heroic swings.
Dominic Giuntoli was the hero in a 10-9 win over Gavilan in 10 innings in a makeup game to complete the regular season. His RBI single in the bottom of the10th drove in David Langer to break the 9-9 tie.
Chabot scored two in the ninth to force extra innings. Pinch hitter Matt Barraza had an RBI single and Giuntoli an RBI double in the uprising. Langer had a monster game with four hits in five at-bats, including two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored. Cole Coffey was 2 for 6 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Giuntoli was 3 for 6 with two doubles.
In the 2-1 win over De Anza, Chris Tonna had a brilliant start, allowing four hits and no runs over seven innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Winning pitcher Jack Delmore allowed just one hit and a run over 4.1 innings, striking out three and walking none.
Alex Bray was the hero with a solo home run in the top of the 11th to break the 1-1 tie, and he also scored in the seventh inning on a double play to give Chabot a 1-0 lead. Gavilan tied it in the eighth.
In the playoffs, Chabot will look to avenge a three-game sweep by Sacramento City during nonconference play early in the season.
