TURNQUIST STRIKES OUT 11, CHABOT BASEBALL TAKES DOWN DE ANZA IN CONFERENCE PLAY

James Logan High graduate Mark Turnquist delivered a quality start and the offense pounded out 10 hits, as the Chabot baseball team moved past the .500 mark in conference play with an 8-2 win over host De Anza on March 23.
Turnquist allowed just four hits and two earned runs over 8.0 innings, striking out 11 and walking three. Tim O'Dalaigh highlighted the offensive effort with a three-run home run that gave Chabot a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. O'Dalaigh was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
Caleb Millikan had a clutch two-run single in the ninth to round out the scoring. Cole Coffey was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Reliever Logan Caton worked a spotless ninth inning to nail down the win.
In a 9-6 loss at West Valley on March 21, leadoff Jake Simons staked Chabot to a 2-1 lead with an RBI triple in the second inning. Coffey also had an RBI single in the first. Simons had a productive game with two hits and three runs.
Russell Stevenson (2 for 4) gave the Gladiators a jolt with a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game 4-4. Chabot upped the lead to 6-4 in the seventh, courtesy of an RBI single by Manny Garcia and RBI fielder's choice by Coffey, but West Valley scored the game's final five runs.
Coffey is third in the conference in RBI with 30 and Stevenson and Gerald Nervis are tied for second in home runs with four each. Chabot outfielder Jake Simons is tied for first in the conference in stolen bases with 12, which is tied for 16th in the state.
Mission (19-4, 8-1) leads the conference by two games, but Chabot (10-15, 5-4) is only one game behind San Mateo (16-8, 6-3) and West Valley (12-13, 6-3), who share second place.
