CHABOT BASEBALL WINS THRILLER OVER MISSION

The Chabot baseball team took a wild 10-9 victory over Mission on April 6, as Trevor Contier's third hit of the game drove home Manny Garcia in the bottom of the ninth inning for the walk-off win.
The never-say-die Gladiators overcame deficits of 5-2, 7-6, and 9-7. Gerald Nervis tied the game 9-9 with a two-run single in the sixth inning, setting the stage for Contier's late heroics.
Chabot (13-18, 7-5) is in a tight battle with College of San Mateo (19-11, 8-4) and West Valley (14-17, 7-5) for second place in the Coast-Golden Gate Conference. Mission (23-6, 10-2) leads the conference.
In the back-and-fourth battle with Mission, the Gladiators took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Nervis two-run single. Nervis had a big game going 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Contier was 3 for 6 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Mission took a 5-2 lead with five runs in the second, a rally highlighted by Garrett McCarthy's grand slam, but Chabot responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Contier, Cole Coffey and Nervis all had RBI singles in the uprising and Dominic Guintoli tacked on an RBI double.
Mission retook the lead 7-6 with two in the third, but Contier tied it in the bottom of the inning by driving in Garcia.
Brian Tan came up big in relief of starter Chris Tonna, allowing five hits and no earned runs over 5.0 innings to get the win.
Chabot had a 2-1 record this past week, also including a 19-0 win over De Anza on April 3 and a 14-6 defeat to Mission on April 4.
