The Chabot Baseball team wins over West Valley

The Chabot baseball team finished last week with back-to-back wins over West Valley that showcased the Gladiators' capabilities on offense and on the mound.

The third-place Gladiators (17-20, 11-7 Coast-Golden Gate) thus stemmed the tide after back-to-back defeats to College of San Mateo. Chabot enters the week in third place in the always competitive conference.

Chabot leadoff hitter Jake Simons paced the offense in a 9-1 win over West Valley on April 18, going 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Catcher Jake Crittenden was 2 for 4 with a home run. Caleb Millikan was 2 for 3 with three runs scored.

Starting pitcher Mark Turnquist delivered a strong effort over 6.2 innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Reliever Brian Tan nailed it down, allowing one earned run and three hits over 2.1 innings.

Gerald Nervis crushed two, three-run home runs in a 22-1 rout of West Valley on April 20 in Hayward. Russell Stevenson, who also doubled, and Josh Campuzano also homered for the Gladiators. Cole Coffey was also very productive with two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Simons walked and scored three times.

Starter Chris Tonna was stellar, striking out seven and walking just one over 7.0 innings. He allowed one earned run. Relievers Logan Caton and Augusto Pineda also tossed scoreless innings.

Chabot will close the regular season with two conference games against De Anza on April 23 and 24 and a nonconference contest against Diablo Valley on April 26 in Pleasant Hill.
