CHABOT BASEBALL ROARS INTO MARCH!!!
Baseball season is in full swing, and the Chabot College squad is on a tear.
The Glads traveled to Monterey Peninsula on Saturday and took a 2-1 nonconference win, their seventh victory in the past nine games.
Starter Daniel Hernandez went six strong innings, striking out three and allowing two hits and one earned run. Reliever Joseph Coupland got the win, striking out four over three scoreless innings. The bottom of the order stepped up as outfielders Tyson Brown and Cole Jones combined for four hits in six at bats.
Jones (2 for 3) doubled home Brown with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Jones also had a stolen base. Brown (2 for 3) had two doubles.
Chabot (9-7) had a 3-0 record last week, also with home wins over Los Medanos 6-4 on Tuesday and Cabrillo 9-4 on Thursday.
Against LMC, Chabot broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Glads raked out 14 hits for the game. Daniel Behrmann was 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored and an RBI. TJ Costello was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run.
Leadoff Nico DeFazio, the shortstop, was 3 for 5 with an RBI. Brown was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Cole Aney had a quality start over 6.0 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run.
Against Cabrillo, Behrmann slugged a two-run home run and Brown, who has been hot at the plate, was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBI. Jones and Jonathan Sheppard both had two hits. Matthew Ennis worked two scoreless innings in relief.
Chabot hosts Hartnell at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4.
