CHABOT FOOTBALL GALLANT IN SEASON-ENDING LOSS TO LANEY

The season ended for the Chabot football team with a hard-fought, 21-7 loss to rival Laney Friday night in Oakland.
But Chabot battled another highly ranked Bay 6 opponent with its usual gusto. Gladiators coach Eric Fanene had no complaints about his team in the game's aftermath, tweeting:
"These young men deserve a bowl game...no quit in these guys...my guys. Couldn't be more proud. That was a war tonight against a great team. Love you guys."
Chabot finished the season ranked No. 25 in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau Coaches poll.
Buoyed by a stellar defense, the Gladiators rallied from a 6-0 halftime deficit to take 7-6 lead on a 1-yard TD run by freshman quarterback Chayce Akaka late in the third quarter, along with the PAT by Alejandro Cervantes. But Laney responded with with two touchdown runs by Jordon Brookshire to seal the win.
Four teams in the powerful Bay 6 all landed bowl berths, including Laney (8-2, 4-1), but Chabot (5-5, 1-4) did not receive a bid.

Santa Rosa (5-4, 1-3) which took a wild 47-40 overtime win over Chabot on Oct. 27, will compete in the Gridiron Classic at American River. The Santa Rosa-DVC game scheduled for last week was cancelled due to air quality.
