GLADS SWEEP HAWKS IN OT THRILLER

The Chabot men's basketball team got 25 points from freshman Marcellus Edwards and 23 from sophomore Zach Broadous to defeat upset-minded Las Positas 78-72 in overtime in the Coast-North Conference on Friday, Feb. 16.

The impressive Broadous leads the conference in scoring at 19.3 points a game.

The Glads, under head coach Keenan McMiller, have swept the Hawks in each of the past two seasons, after Las Positas beat Chabot twice in 2021-22.

Edwards was a clutch 14 of 14 from the free throw line in the back-and-forth battle between district rivals. He is No. 4 in the conference in field goal percentage at 50.2, just behind teammate Makaio Mims (51.1), who is third.

The Glads (20-7, 8-3), ranked No. 20 in the State, have won two in a row after dropping three straight in the tough conference. Chabot can lock up sole possession of second place with a win over Ohlone (13-13, 3-7) at home at 7 p.m. on Friday. The regional playoffs will follow.

Edwards tacked on four rebounds and three assists against LPC. Broadous added six rebounds and two assists. Also, Noah Thomas had 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.

NEXT LEVEL: Former Chabot player Isaiah Veal, now with Spring Hill College-Alabama, was recently named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Veal went off for a career-high 37 points (10-21 FG; 2-3 3FG) while also setting another career record with 15 made free throws. That alongside his career-high two steals helped the Badgers to an 85-83 win over Kentucky State.
