New Chabot College men's soccer coach Geoff Aguiar sure has made good use of his time preparing for the 2023 season.
The master soccer builder has quickly assembled a deep roster at Chabot since being hired in only February. The Glads have gone from not having a team in 2022 to having a full roster with 30 student-athletes with jerseys and other group of redshirts preparing to play next year.
Chabot opened the nonconference season at Santa Rosa on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Clearly, recruiting has gone well.
"One thing we are proud of is we have brought student-athletes to Chabot from 20 different high schools," Aguiar said. "We have students from all over the East Bay from Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, San Ramon, Oakland and into the South Bay with Fremont and San Jose as well."
The Glads enjoyed success in their first scrimmage, a 2-1 win over Lincoln University.
"We are excited to get the season going and looking forward to competing," Aguiar said.
Impact players in the scrimmage were Marcelo Perez, Walter Avellaneda, Mahmoud Shimila, JC Gonzalez, Monir Gardizi and goalkeepers Jacob Frederick and Colin Nestor.
Aguiar, in addition to being a soccer star at Las Positas College, has helped build strong programs first as an assistant coach at Las Positas and head coach at Merritt and College of Marin, before helping Dominican University to its first Division 2 title as an assistant coach. Now that's production.
