GLADS TIE STATE POWER FOOTHILL

Marin Michieli scored in the 78th minute to give Chabot a 1-0 lead, but Foothill answered with a goal a minute later as the teams wound up tied, 1-1, on Sept. 22 in Hayward.
Chabot head coach Dan Chubbock was thrilled with his team's effort against a team ranked 13th in the state. Foothill (6-0-1) is a heavy-hitter in the Coast-South.
"A really good test for us and our girls delivered a strong performance," Chubbock said.
He was particularly pleased the "stalwart defending" from Giselle Caballero and Julie Lemoine, who stood in for the absent Sophia Amezcua.
Goalkeeper Nat Hassmann saw the most action she's seen this season and was "foot-perfect," the coach said.
"Both sides hit the post in the second half, and it was a very entertaining game," Chubbock said. "The games will keep getting tougher from here … Very happy with the performance, and although a win would have been nice, a draw was a fair result."
Chabot's top scorer Emily Hornig has 13 goals and is ranked No. 2 in the state in scoring, and Michieli is tied for No. 2 in the state in assists with eight. Hornig and Michieli are No. 2 and 3 in total points, with 31 and 30, respectively.
Chabot (4-1-1) will open Coast-North play at home against Hartnell at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.
