The Chabot women's soccer team opened the first conference season under new head coach Dan Chubbock with a sweet 2-1 victory over Hartnell on Friday, Sept. 29.
Emily Hornig scored the winning goal in the 70th minute after visiting Hartnell equalized in the 50th minute. The clutch goal came from a goalmouth scramble off a corner by Marin Michieli.
Chabot improved to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Coast-North. The Glads also earned a quality result in a 1-1 draw with Foothill on Sept. 22. Chubbock clearly has the program in sharp form in its return season.
Michieli also scored in the fourth minute off a Hornig assist Friday, making it 1-0 in a tight match that lacked a lot of clear scoring chances.
"Really happy to get a win in our first conference game … We spent a lot of time this week working on our midfield shape and it paid off. We looked organized and difficult to break down," Chubbock said.
The Glads overcame the loss of Jasmine De La Torre to a possible concussion in warmups, but Isabela Regalado stepped in.
Keeper Nat Hassmann made some big saves in the second half to help clinch the victory. The Glads' attack kept Hartnell on its heels.
"We continue to look dangerous on the attack and we hope we can continue to cause some surprise results in this conference," Chubbock said.
