The Chabot women's soccer team notched two strong wins this week, routing depleted Gavilan 9-0 and beating a tough De Anza 2-1.
Against Gavilan, the Glads scored nine times in the first half, getting goals from Marin Michieli, Emily Hornig, Brenda Munoz, Emilie Anderson and Selena Davalos.
"Good opportunity for some playing time for some of the girls that haven't had the chance in the previous few games," Chabot coach Dan Chubbock said. "The game was played at a slower pace, but it allowed us to recover and prepare for the game on Friday, which we knew was going to be much harder."
The De Anza game was a battle. An opportunistic Chabot side overcame some indecisive play and passing deficiencies in the first half to get the job done.
"Fortunately, we were able to make the most of the one good opportunity we had and Michieli tucked away a nice finish after a good pass from midfield," Chubbock said.
He added that the second half was more commanding, but De Anza had its share of chances.
"Fortunately (goalkeeper Nat) Hassmann was on her game again and made the big saves when called upon," the coach added. "We went two up when Lumley smashed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar."
De Anza scored in the last minute, but there was no time left for them to mount a comeback.
"Really happy with the result and hoping we can make it three in a row on Tuesday against Ohlone," Chubbock said.
