In chilly, wet and windy conditions, the Chabot track and field team delivered the goods at the Monterey Peninsula College Open on Feb. 16.
The day started in historic fashion as three Gladiators' female pole vaulters added their names to the Chabot All Time Top 10 list. Freshmen Julie Eubank and Kayley Ho soared into a three-way tie for fifth in the books after a vault of 9 feet. Janessa Fanuncio also moved into a tie for 10th with a vault of 8 feet.
On the track, the Gladiators placed four in the top 7 in the 3,000 meters. Reece Proctor led the way with a winning time of 8 minutes, 55 seconds, prevailing by a whopping 11 seconds.
Chabot's sprint crew started off with a bang qualifying four for the May Northern California Championships. The 100-meter qualifiers were Chabot men Roman Johnson (10.92) and Ramir Smith (10.95) and women Maurcedez Potts (12.66) and Britney Canete (12.95). Smith also placed second in the 200 with a time of 22.36.
Sophomore Jamie Guzman won both of her hurdle events with times of 16.31 and 1:10.89.
The Chabot men also won both the 4x100 (42.99) and 4x400 (3:30.28).
