Surging Chabot has won three of four games, besting Mission 4-0 on Feb. 15, Diablo Valley College 14-5 on Feb. 20 and Laney 3-2 on Feb. 21. The Gladiators' lone setback during the stretch was a 2-1 loss to DVC in 13 innings, a game suspended due to darkness.
In the win over DVC, Chabot's Antonio Valerio got the win, allowing five hits over seven innings and allowing three earned runs, striking out eight and walking two.
Leadoff Jakob Simons, the center fielder, had a big game going 4 for 4 from the plate with five RBIs and two runs scored. Second baseman Dean Sarmiento scored four runs and third baseman Logan Mendoza, who tripled, scored three times. Catcher Sam Gilliam was 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI.
In the tight win over Laney, Chabot got RBIs from Simons, Gilliam and designated hitter Ryan Stemplinger, who had an RBI fielder's choice. Mitch Benson (2-2) was the winning pitcher with an impressive performance, allowing two hits over seven innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Jake Gebb worked two innings and got the save, with two strikeouts.
