The Chabot College baseball team opened conference play in fine style, taking two of three against longtime rival College of San Mateo.

The Glads took games two and three, each by one run after dropping the opener. In Saturday's finale, a trio of Gladiators played key roles in a 5-4 triumph that head coach Will Tavis called a "great team win." 

Kolin Fukuki was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Sam Heyman went 6.1 innings, allowing five hits. Carson Glavich worked 1.2 innings and struck out three. Heyman, a freshman right-hander, is having a strong season with a 3-1 record and 2.25 ERA. Designated hitter Kacen Shreffler walked twice and scored twice in the win.

The Glads improved to 15-7-1 overall and 2-1 in the Coast-North and are in a three-way tie for first place with West Valley and Canada. The Glads and Canada are set to start a three-game series at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Steve Friend Stadium.
Chabot's Brian Duroff, who plays right field and first base, leads the state in RBIs with 42 and is tied for second in home runs with nine.
Another Chabot power broker, Casey Cummings socked his eighth home run of the season in a 7-6 win over CSM at Steve Friend Stadium in Game 2 of the series. In addition to being two off the state lead in Big Flies, Cummings leads the state in stolen bases with 17. Nicholas Mladnich, the second baseman, was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the 7-6 victory.
Chabot packaged its offensive output with five runs in the second and two in the seventh. The Glads held off the Bulldogs who scored two in the top of the ninth.
Chabot starter Hawk Hill (4-0) allowed two runs and struck out five over 6.0 innings, walking one.
