HOW ABOUT THEM GLADS!

After finishing the conference season with a flourish – the Chabot baseball team upended visiting Skyline 5-1 Thursday to clinch a Coast-North co-championship – the Glads received the No. 7 seed for the 3C2A NorCal Regional playoffs.
Chabot (29-10), which has won back-to-back conference championships, will host No. 18 Merced (21-18) in a best-of-three series on May 3-4.
First-year Chabot head coach Paul Wiebens – a former Glads assistant -- credited his players and assistant coaches for the successful season. The Glads are riding a five-game winning streak into the playoffs.
Left-hander Isaac Lucas went the distance for the win over Skyline, allowing one earned run, four hits, three walks, and striking out eight. He is tied for ninth in the state in strikeouts with 88.
Sophomore first baseman Emmitt Phinney is having a sensational season with a .406 batting average (tied for 19th in the state),.729 slugging percentage, and his 10 home runs shares the team high with Noah Morton. Raoul Fabian Jr. is hitting .377 with a .664 slugging percentage and nine Big Flies. He leads the team with 24 stolen bases. Nick Walsh leads the way in doubles with 13.
Chabot can hurt teams one through nine in the batting order and ranks at or near the top in the state in numerous team categories.
