The Chabot football team looks to keep the positive energy flowing when it hits the road against winless San Joaquin Delta on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The Gladiators (1-1) and Delta (0-2) will kick off at 1 p.m. in Stockton.

Delta has dropped back-to-back games against powerful opposition in Butte (46-10) and College of San Mateo (43-3).

Chabot looked like a team on the rise in a 38-6 rout of Sequoias last week, after dropping its season opener at Shasta 26-3 in Redding.

Chabot limited Sequoias to 201 yards of total offense, including just 62 yards rushing. The Gladiators intercepted three passes and had six quarterback sacks. Those with at least one sack were Nick Vaimaona, Nainoa Keahi (1.5), Alex Lopeti, Alphonso Mitchell, and Jeremiah Famor.

Sophomore dual-threat quarterback Chayce Akaka had a big game, completing 15 of 23 for 273 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 80 yards on 12 carries (6.7 average). Akaka hooked up twice with Tanner Wright on TD passes of 34 yards and 45 yards. Akaka also passed to Alan Riggins for a 53-yard score.

Standout defensive back Darriell Wells had his third interception of the season with one of the team's three picks. Najee Rushing and J'Kazee Dorrough also had interceptions.

One area that needs polishing: Chabot was penalized 17 times for 221 yards.

Chabot will return home on Sept. 28 to face Siskiyous.
