The Chabot football team road the Ponove Veimau Express in a 28-23 road win over Diablo Valley College on Friday in the Bay 6 Conference, the Gladiators' third consecutive victory.
Veimau amassed 149 yards rushing on 16 carries, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown to open the second half and give the Gladiators a 21-16 lead.
Janiero Crankfield added his own big play at the end of the third quarter on an 84-yard TD pass from Chayce Akaka. Pablo Rico's extra point made it 28-16.
Chabot (4-2, 1-0) ran for 263 yards as Isaiah Nehemiah-McGlown had 69 yards on 11 carries and Akaka had 63 yards on nine carries with a 22-yard TD run.
Richard Washington had two receptions for 80 yards, highlighted by a 70-yard TD catch from Akaka to give Chabot the early lead.
Tyrone Simmons Jr. led the Chabot defense with six total tackles, including a sack. Nick Vaimaona had 1 1/2 sacks.
Chabot had an electrifying night with three scoring plays of at least 70 yards.
Diablo Valley falls to 3-3 and 0-1.
Akaka was 6-for-15 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also punted four times for an excellent average of 45.8.
Chabot will host Santa Rosa at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Gladiator Stadium.
