CHABOT DROPS ROAD TEST IN SANTA ROSA

The young Chabot football team dropped its third in a row with a 47-18 loss to host Santa Rosa Junior College on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Gladiators (1-3) will travel to Contra Costa College (0-3) on Saturday, Oct. 1 to complete nonconference play, and will host East Bay-rival Diablo Valley on Oct. 15 in the Gladiators' Bay 6 Conference opener after a bye week.
Chabot had a highlight on special teams against SRJC, when Koi Mahe returned a blocked extra point attempt 98 yards to the house for a two-point play in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 23-2. Chabot surged after that, tacking on a 9-yard scoring run by Ismael Sanchez and a 36-yard field goal by Mark Vargas in the second quarter, and trailed 23-12 at halftime.
But Santa Rosa pulled away after the intermission.
Jeremiah Crum scored Chabot's lone TD in the second half on a 64-yard completion from Kekoa Turangan, who was 21-of-41 passing for 241 yards with one touchdown. Crum had a nice game with seven catches for 129 yards, and Damien Moun had six receptions for 42 yards. Sanchez and Raymond Orozco combined for 71 yards on 15 carries.
Eric Johnson paced the Chabot defense with 11 total tackles, including 10 solo, against a balanced Santa Rosa offense. The hosts passed for 245 yards and ran for 284. Santa Rosa quarterback Santino Chavez was an efficient 24 of 29 for 245 yards and three TDs. Gavin Lemos led SRJC with 115 yards on 14 carries with two TDs.
