Sophomore guard Isaiah Saams Hoy had a big game as the Chabot men's basketball team rallied past Hartnell 87-77 Saturday night in a Coast-North vs. Coast-South battle.
Saams Hoy scored 17 points, going a tidy 7 of 8 from and the field and 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and adding four rebounds. Chabot showed resolve overcoming a 10-point halftime deficit to outscore Hartnell 47-27 in the second half.
The balanced Gladiators (15-8, 6-4 Coast-North) were paced on offense by Jaiden Rivera's 19 points. Isaiah Veal had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Christian Pitcher contributed 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The Gladiators return to Coast-North action with a couple of road games. They're at Ohlone on Tuesday, Feb. 15 and at State No. 1 City College of San Francisco on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
All but one of Chabot's Coast-North defeats have come against teams ranked in the state's top 15, so the Gladiators are close. Chabot had 17 wins in the 2019-20 season, but the 2020-21 season was wiped out due to the Covid pandemic.
