In an outstanding basketball season for the college, the Chabot men's and women's teams earned berths in the CCCAA Northern California Regional Playoffs this week.
The 15th-seeded Chabot men's team (17-10) will host 18/17 Folsom Lake (16-11) in Round 1 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner facing No. 2 West Valley (24-3) in Round 2.
The No. 13 Chabot women will travel to No. 4 Fresno City (23-4) in Round 2 on Thursday. The winner will face either No. 5 Butte (21-6) or No. 12 College of San Mateo (15-9) in Round 3 on Saturday.
The Chabot men, guided by head coach Keenan McMiller, finished fourth in the Coast-North Conference with an 8-6 mark. Isaiah Veal paced the balanced Gladiators' offense with 12.9 points a game, David Ogunleye added 11.4 ppg and 7.2 rebounds a game, and Jaiden Rivera was at 11.0 ppg.
Ogunleye and Veal were selected to the First Team all-conference, and Ogunleye made the All-Freshman Team. Rivera made the conference All Defensive Team and All-Conference Honorable Mention.
On the women's side, Chabot's dynamic freshman trio of Dede Franklin (12.5 ppg), Cassidy Duncan (13.1 ppg) and Kendra Grant (12.9 ppg) were First Team All-Conference selections.
Young Chabot finished third in the tough Coast-North, with losses only to CCSF (twice) and Skyline. The Gladiators topped CSM 58-56 in their conference finale with a great defensive effort. Franklin led the way with 18 points and Grant had 11.
