The Gladiators (10-4), ranked 14th in the Dec. 9 CCCWBCA State Poll, continued to turn heads with their play and resilience against top-flight competition. Chabot won two of three in the Solano Showdown in Fairfield, Dec. 13-15.

Chabot notched wins over Cosumnes River, 82-53, state No. 15 Lassen, 78-61, before falling to powerful state No. 3 San Joaquin Delta, 80-71, playing short-handed in the championship game.

"The kids battled. Proud of them," coach Mark Anger stated after the defeat.

Zakiya Mahoney had a career-high 32 points against Delta and was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammate Kayla Tahaafe.

Mahoney was also sensational against Lassen, which had a 12-1 record entering the game, with 19 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, six steals, and two blocks.

Against Cosumnes River, Chabot played stellar defense, leading 35-21 at halftime and never looking back. Mahoney and Adorah Buggs both had 21 points and Nyah Willis had 18 points. Mahoney added 10 rebounds in a double-double.
