The dazzling Chabot women's basketball team was rewarded for a first-place finish in the Coast-North with a No. 4 seed in the CCCAA NorCal State Playoffs.

The Gladiators, who are two wins away from advancing to the State Championship round, will host No. 13 Fresno City on Saturday, Feb. 29, tentatively set for 7 p.m. The winner will face either No. 5 Merced or No. 12 Folsom.

Chabot last won conference title in 2015, when it also won the state championship under current coach Mark Anger.

Chabot clinched the Coast-North title with 72-43 win over College of San Mateo on Feb. 21, the Gladiators' eighth straight win. Chabot won in a variety of ways down the stretch, taking tactical battles against the likes of Skyline and City College of San Francisco and routing everyone else.

Adorah Buggs led the balanced Gladiators against CSM with 18 points, and Nyah Willis and Zakiya Mahoney both had 17 points. Chabot improved to 22-6 overall and 8-2 in conference.

Mahoney, a 5-foot-9 sophomore, made the All-State North First Team. She was picked to the third team All-State last season. Mahoney led the team at 17.8 points a game and with a shooting percentage of 46.3%. Mahoney nearly averaged a double-double, also amassing 9.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game (both team highs).

Willis was No. 2 in team scoring at 15.8 ppg, followed by Buggs at 13.4 ppg.
