Chabot freshman guard Nyah Willis, a former Valley Christian High star, is transferring to Division I Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
Presbyterian coach Alaura Sharp is thrilled to be getting the 5-foot-10 guard in the rebuilding program.
"She is a smart and driven young woman," Sharp said in a school release. "Her basketball potential is through the roof, and we are excited that she chose PC! She will add length and athleticism to our roster."
Willis averaged 15.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists per game last season for an outstanding Chabot squad guided by Mark Anger. The Gladiators (24-6) earned the conference title and advanced to the CCCAA State Championship round.
"I think Nyah's best basketball is ahead of her," Anger said. "She improved as the year went on."
Anger, who has sent five players to Division I, said Willis became a more consistent 3-point shooter.
"Great kid. I wish nothing but the best for her," he said.
A dynamic player, Willis was a first team all-Coast North pick. She was a three-time all-West Catholic Athletic League selection at Valley Christian.
Now she's ready for another big step forward.
"Nyah can score in many different ways while also knowing how to set up her teammates to score," Sharp said. "She is a very complete player, and we are anxious to get her on campus!"
Willis is excited about joining the PC Blue Hose.
"I'm choosing PC because I see the opportunity to be a part of something special!" Willis said.
