Chabot sophomore star Zakiya Mahoney, a first-team All-State pick, has signed with 49ers' legend Jerry Rice's old school, Mississippi Valley State.
The Bishop O'Dowd High graduate averaged 18.4 points and 9.8 rebounds a game last season. She had over 1,000 career points at Chabot.
"Mahoney's high activity level, high energy and high motor allows her to score from anywhere on the floor as well as help clean up on the rebounding end," said Devilettes head coach Ashley Walker Johnson in a school release.
Chabot coach Mark Anger expects more big things from Mahoney, a tremendous all-round player, at the next level.
"They got a steal In Zakiya," Anger says. "She has a great motor and work ethic. She is a winnner and brings a special toughness which you can't teach."
Fellow Chabot star Nyah Willis recently signed with Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
Chabot had an outstanding season with 24 wins and a Coast-North title, also advancing to the CCCAA State Championship round before the tournament was canceled at the last minute due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
