CHABOT WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM KICKS INTO GEAR

The Chabot women's soccer team enjoyed an outstanding week with a 3-1 win over Sacramento City on Sept. 28 to complete nonconference play, followed by a 2-0 triumph over Ohlone on Oct. 1 in its Coast Conference-North opener.
The galloping Gladiators (4-4-1, 1-0-0) entered this week riding a three-match unbeaten streak.
Celeste Macias scored two times against Ohlone, both in the second half as the Gladiators took command.
Coach Bathelt commented on his team's big second half against Ohlone: "Chabot came out way more determined and aggressive with repeatedly more attacks."
Chabot was missing four players against Ohlone, which competed with no substitutes. The Renegades created a few dangerous opportunities to score in the first half but were denied by sharp Chabot goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez. Macias scored what proved to be the winning goal on a header off an Audrey Burnell corner kick in the 53rd minute.
On a hot day, Chabot kept grinding in the second half thanks to the strong work of Aylin Acosta, Audrey Burnell, Ariana Umildad and Angela Tafur. The extra effort set up the second goal by Macias after Giselle Villegas dribbled down the right wing and sent in a precise cross. Macas extended her right foot and shot past the keeper into the left corner.
Melanie Morales also attacked powerfully in the second half in her first conference game after a focused week of practice.
Against Sacramento City, Chabot's Jimena Rodriguez scored twice to highlight the victory. The teams both displayed a nice attacking style that made the match pleasant to watch, according to Bathelt.
Umildad had one of her many steals in the first half to set up Chabot's first goal. She sent a quick lateral pass to Giselle Villegas, who passed through the Sac City defense to Jimena Rodriguez, who dribbled in and scored in the 29th minute.
In the 37th minute, Chabot keeper Arianna Rodriguez, who once again was a strong contributor along with center defenders Ameoly Garcia Maldonado and Brianna Carbajal, punted the ball toward the center half-line. The ball bounced over the defense and Macias raced onto it right before the Sac City keeper and finished low in the right corner.
After Sac City cut the deficit to 2-1 off a corner kick in the 48th minute, Chabot locked it up on a Jimena Rodriguez penalty kick in the 84th minute after she was fouled in the box.
