CHABOT WOMEN EXTEND UNBEATEN STREAK TO FOUR

The Chabot women's soccer team continued to show improvement while extending its unbeaten streak to four with a heady 0-0 draw against Las Positas on Oct. 8 in the Coast-North.
The Gladiators improved to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference, while Las Positas stands at 9-2-1 and 1-2-1.
Chabot gained a measure of revenge after falling 3-0 to Las Positas to open the season. Chabot was bolstered in the teams' second meeting by having goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez and field players Celeste Macias and Ivette Mendoza Ramirez on the field, although central defender Brianna Carbajal was out ill.
Impressively, Rodriguez has not allowed a goal in 222 minutes of play.
Chabot looks to continue its unbeaten streak against host West Valley College on Tuesday. The Gladiators have a showdown against first place City College of San Francisco on Oct. 15.
In the Las Positas draw, the Gladiators were undaunted despite the cool weather and gusty winds. Chabot started the match playing against the wind and looked to push the ball forward on the ground with angled passes to break the lines.
"As we prepared for the tough match during the week, we sought to focus on transitions and challenging for every 50/50 and managing overloads," assistant coach Daniel Ochoa stated.
In the first half, Chabot withstood an aggressive and powerful Las Positas attack as the Hawks pushed three and four players forward. The Gladiators' front-line players also pressed forward and denied Las Positas quality service.
"We were 0-0 at half and felt good about how we were performing," Ochoa stated in his match report.
Chabot upped the pressure on the attack with the wind in the second half, playing longer balls. But Las Positas held firm in the back-and-forth battle.
"We felt good about the draw because it was a marker of our improvement over the season against a strong Las Positas side," Ochoa shared. "We also reflected on how we played and saw a lot of growth and individual and team performances."
