WOMEN'S TENNIS COURTS EARLY SUCCESS

The Chabot women's tennis team roared into the new season with a 9-0 thumping of Solano on Jan. 27 and a first-place finish in the West Valley Doubles tourney on Jan. 28.
Chabot is set to open Coast Conference play against West Valley on Friday.
Against Solano, Julie Santiago, out of Kamehameha High in Hawaii, took a hard-fought singles decision over Katelyn Crismon 7-5, 6-4, and Gabby Madison (Castro Valley) rallied to prevail over Sarah Crismon 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Mi Qi of China defeated Calista Martinez 6-2, 6-0.
In the West Valley Doubles tourney, Chabot amassed a 4-1 record with wins over Modesto 2-1, American River 3-0, Solano 3-0 and Reedley 3-0, only falling to Sierra 2-1.
In the team's loss to UC Santa Cruz, Santiago dropped a tough three-set decision.
The Gladiators also lost a 9-0 decision to UC Santa Cruz.
