GLADIATORS BASEBALL FINDING THE SWEET SPOT

The Chabot College baseball team has been hitting its stride in recent action.
After dropping its Coast-Golden Gate opener against Mission on March 7, Chabot walloped Mission 15-7 on March 8, in a game rescheduled from earlier due to rain.
The Gladiators surged to the victory in grand style with nine runs total over the eighth and ninth innings. In fact, Russell Stevenson's grand slam highlighted a six-run eighth as Chabot seized control. Chabot's Cole Coffey also had a big game highlighted by a three-run blast in the fifth to give Chabot a 6-2 cushion.
Coffey was 3 for 5 with five RBI and three runs scored. The top of the order delivered in a big way. Leadoff Jake Simons scored four times and No. 2 hitter Caleb Millikan had two RBI and three runs scored.
Reliever Brian Tan allowed four hits and an earned run over 3.0 innings, striking out two and walking none.
In a 6-1 win over CCSF on March 9 in San Francisco, Chabot starter Mitch Benson went six strong innings, allowing one earned run with six strikeouts and four walks. Reliever Adrian Padilla nailed it down impressively, allowing three hits and no runs over 3.0 innings, striking out four and walking none.
Simons led the offense with four hits, including two doubles. Gerald Nervis had a two-run triple. Coffey scored twice and drove in two.
Chabot will look to stay unbeaten at home this season when it hosts CCSF on March 12.
The Gladiators will also face rival College of San Mateo in a two-game series in conference play. The two teams will meet March 14 in San Mateo and March 16 in Hayward. The Gladiators are 3-0 at Gene Wellman Field.
