GLADS BREAK OUT THE BIG BATS!

The Chabot baseball team (7-3) continued its solid start with two wins in three tries this past week. Chabot pounded Gavilan 12-8 and Diablo Valley College 24-9, in seven innings, and then dropped a cliffhanger to Modesto Junior College, 6-5.

In a dramatic eighth inning against Gavilan, Raoul Fabian Jr. belted a grand slam to break an 8-8 tie. Shane Aldridge then worked a scoreless ninth in relief to seal the victory. 

Fabian was 3 for 4 with a home run, double, five RBI, and two runs scored. Tyson Brown also had a monster game going 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. Shortstop Noah Zertuche was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.

The Glads also brought out the big bats against DVC, with 15 hits to go with the 24 runs. Nick Walsh, TJ Costello, Zertuche, and Fabian led the hit parade combining for 12 hits and 14 RBI. Walsh, with a solo shot in the fifth, and Zertuche, with a three-run shot in the fourth, slugged home runs. Walsh and Gabe DeBenedetto doubled.

Daniel Velichko had a glittering 1.2 innings in relief, striking out three and allowing no hits.

Walsh was a sizzling 3 for 4 with four RBI and four runs scored against the outmanned Vikings, and Costello was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Brown was hot again, going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Chabot will look to rebound from the loss to Modesto on the road against Cosumnes River on Thursday, before hosting Contra Costa at 1 p.m. on Friday.
