SOME POSITIVES IN LOSS TO CONTRA COSTA

The Chabot Gladiators came up short once again on Saturday at Gladiator Stadium, falling to Contra Costa College 23-7.
Despite the loss that pushed them to 0-5, the Gladiators did have some positives to close out the nonconference schedule.
Defense: Chabot held the Comets to 366 total yards, including 87 rushing yards. They forced two more turnovers, including a red-zone turnover where Eric Johnson forced a fumble and came away with the ball inside their own
20.
Another turning point came in late in the first half. The Comets marched inside the Gladiators 20, but Chabot stopped Contra Costa short of end zone on a quarterback scramble as time ran out.
Marlin Brown had a strong game up front for Chabot, with a sack, two hurries and two tackles-for-losses.
Offense: The Gladiators scored just their first touchdown in six quarters. With about two minutes left in the third quarter, Ian Hocheder found the end zone. Facing a fourth-and-3, quarterback Colby Furia hit Hocheder on a slant. Hocheder turned on the jets and ran over a Comets defensive back for a 26-yard scoring strike that cut the Contra Costa lead to 20-7.
