GLADS HOLD OFF CCSF IN THRILLER

Chabot (14-4, 2-0), No. 14 in the Jan. 2 state poll, held on for a rousing upset win over State No. 5 City College of San Francisco, 79-77, on Friday, Jan. 12 in the Coast-North Conference. 
Makaio Mims, a sophomore guard out of Logan High, electrified the Chabot home crowd going 5 for 6 from 3-point range and scoring a team-high 24 points. 
Chabot vaults into first place, while CCSF (13-5, 1-1) falls into a three-way tie for third place.
Last year, Chabot became the talk of the state with a stunning win over CCSF, 89-87, snapping the Rams' 68-game Coast-North winning streak. It marked Chabot's first win over CCSF since 2015. Friday's triumph continued the Glads' ascent toward the state's upper echelon.
Chabot guard Marcellus Edwards, a freshman sensation, stormed into the spotlight in with 20 points (8-10 ft), and Zack Broadous added 18 points. The Glads overcame foul troubles as two players fouled out and the team had 28 total fouls.
Malik Kaba, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward out of Oakland Tech, also keyed the effort  with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Chabot will host College of San Mateo (8-10, 1-1) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
