GLADS GET BYE IN FIRST ROUND

The Chabot men (21-7), runner-up in the powerful Coast-North Conference, earned a bye in the first round and a home game Saturday, March 2 as the sixth seed of the 3C2A NorCal Regional Playoffs.
They will face either No. 22 College of the Redwoods or No. 11 Merced at 7 p.m.

The Glads showed great depth and resilience overcoming an injury to sophomore guard Makaio Mims in the second half of conference play. The James Logan High graduate suffered a high ankle sprain and bone bruise.

"It took some games to adjust to "Makaio being out and now we have adjusted," Chabot head coach Keenan McMiller shared last week. "We have focused on the defensive end and motivating our bench to step up."

The Glads absolutely stepped up. After absorbing a three-game losing streak, they won their final three conference games playing without Mims. They've earned a fourth consecutive postseason appearance and second 20-win season under McMiller.

During the win streak, they beat Skyline 75-62, Las Positas 78-72 in overtime and Ohlone 78-69, on Sophomore Night. Chabot could also celebrate having seven A.A. graduating student-athletes.

Sophomore Noah Thomas led the way against Ohlone with 20 points, five steals and four rebounds. Sophomore Zach Broadous had 15 points and six rebounds, and freshman Mehki Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds.

The news got even better over the weekend. Broadous was named All State, after averaging 19.2 ppg, 37 percent on 3s, 46 percent on FG, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Making First Team All-Conference were Thomas, freshman sensation Marcellus Edwards and Mims. Thomas averaged 16.5 ppg, 32 percent on 3s, 45 percent field goals, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists.

Edwards, who was 14 for 14 on free throws against Ohlone, is averaging 12.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 31 percent on 3s, and 78 percent on free throws. Mims was 14.5 ppg, 53 percent fg, 44 percent on 3s, 73 percent on free throws, 5.5 rpg and 2.5 assists per game.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The No. 20-ranked Glads (19-9) earned an 11th seed and a home game against No. 22 Taft (18-10) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Like the Chabot men's team, the women finished conference play with a flourish during a four-game winning streak.

They took clutch wins over College of San Mateo and Skyline over the stretch, avenging defeats from the first half of conference play, before routing Las Positas and Ohlone.

Sophomore star Kelly Tumlin was selected All State after averaging 19.0 ppg, 39.1 percent on 3s, which tops the conference. Nia Hunter and Tumlin were first-team conference picks, and Jadyn Anderson and Alexa Pletschette were second team all-conference.

Against CSM, Tumlin had a team-high 17 points and three players had 15 points each – Pletschette, Hunter and Anderson. Pletschette had a double-double, also with 11 boards. Anderson had a double-double against Las Positas with 28 points (13-22 fg) and 11 rebounds; Tumlin added 24 pounts and Pletschette added 20 points.

The talented Hunter had a huge game against Skyline with 24 points, eight boards, three assists and three steals.
