The Chabot men's tennis team is off to a rousing start in the new season.

The Gladiators opened with a 7-2 triumph over Solano on Jan. 27 highlighted by singles wins in straight sets from American High graduate Arav Waghray, Foothill graduate Adam Linette and Castro Valley product Spenser Lin Jones.

The Gladiators also had an impressive 3-1 record and finished second in the West Valley Doubles tourney on Jan. 28, and then swept Diablo Valley College 9-0 on Feb. 1.

In the West Valley tourney, Chabot defeated Modesto Junior College 3-0 as Ben Deriquito (Amador Valley) and Lin Jones won their doubles match 8-4. In a 3-0 rout of Solano, Chabot's Stefan Schneider (Alameda) and Vincent Barletta prevailed 8-1. In a 3-0 loss against American River, Waghray and Linette battled gallantly in an 8-6 loss. The Gladiators also pounced Reedley 3-0.

Against DVC, Deriquito and Schneider romped to easy singles wins.

This weekend, Chabot (2-0) will look to keep it rolling in the 47th annual Modesto tourney.
