SMITH WINS MEN'S 200 TITLE AT COAST CONFERENCE MEET

Chabot freshman Ramir Smith blazed to glory with a first-place finish in the men's 200 meters at the Coast Conference Track and Field Championships at De Anza in Cupertino, April 24-27.
Smith's time of 21.44 seconds was a hair quicker than runner-up Semay Taylor of Sequoias (21.49) in the finals.
In the 100 finals, Smith was a close third (10.72), two spots ahead of teammate Roman Johnson (10.80).
With nice depth in the sprints, Chabot took a very close third in the 4x100 relay (41.34) with a team of Smith, Johnson, Kyren Richardson and Darrien Elzie. Chabot was second in the 4x400 relay (3:17.54) with a team of Reece Proctor, Chris Adrian, Ricky Townsend and Smith. Adrian and Townsend were fourth and fifth in the 400 finals.
Durable Chabot sophomore Sebastian Andersson was a third in both the men's 5,000 (15:51.41) and in the 10,000 (34:27.97).
In the field events, Chabot freshman Ilyas Arsalla was first in the pole vault (4.30m). Nick Pepares was third in the javelin (45.93m), Timothy Bernal was fifth in the long jump. Drew Burgess was fifth in both the discus (39.98m) and sixth in the shot put (12.53m).
The Chabot men finished fifth in the team standings with 88 points.
