GLADIATORS HAVE LOTS OF FRESH FACES ON THE WRESTLING MAT

The Chabot wrestling team, guided by head coach Steve Siroy, has some promising freshmen on a small squad of 13 competitors.

The Gladiators, who are coming off a solid 2018 season in which they finished No. 6 in the CCCAA NorCal Team Duals, will boast sophomore Lazaro Carrasco, who placed fourth at 197 pounds in the CCCAA State Championships two years ago, and the rest of the team is composed of freshmen.

Here's a look at the young Chabot squad:

At 125 pounds, Anthony Barbalinardo (Livermore High) and Diego Ahumada (San Leandro) are looking good after redshirting last season. At 125/133 pounds are Evan Rios (California) and Andrew Aquino (Arroyo).

At 133/141 pounds is Christopher Do (Wilcox High-Sunnyvale). At 165 is Abraham Duenas (American), another redshirt from last year.

At 174/184 are true freshmen Eddy Morales (San Leandro) and Hussein Abushi (Arroyo), a North Coast Section champion at 170 pounds his junior year before sitting out his senior season with an injury.

At 285 pounds is redshirt freshman Henry Espinal (Piedmont Hills-San Jose).
