WHAT A COMEBACK!!
The Chabot baseball team experienced its version of March Madness with a comeback for the ages.
The Glads scored nine in the ninth inning to take a dramatic 14-13 win over Ohlone on Saturday, the Glads' sixth straight victory. TJ Costello brought home the winning run on an infield single that plated Daniel Behrmann.
Ohlone had a seemingly comfortable 13-5 lead after a three-run home run by Zach Dawson in the top of the ninth. But Chabot would not take no for an answer.
As the big rally unfolded, Chabot's Cole Jones cut it to 13-12 with a two-run double. Jonathan Sheppard tied it with an RBI groundout, scoring Jones. Costello's decisive RBI ended it.
Behrmann, Sheppard (4 RBI) and Terrel Romain all homered, and Behrmann and Roman also doubled. Costello was 2 for 4, and Behrmann scored four times.
Juan Pablo Manzo was solid in relief, allowing two hits and a run over 4.0 innings.
During a big week, Chabot also walloped Hartnell 12-2 and Gavilan 9-3, both at Steve Friend Stadium.
Against Hartnell, leadoff Nico DeFazio was 3 for 5 with three runs and three RBI. He was one of three Glads to hit home run be, also including Behrmann and Owen Firestone. Costello doubled twice.
Cole Aney had a quality start, allowing three hits and no runs over 5.0 innings. He struck out eight and got the winning run on.
Against Gavilan, DeFazio put on a show. He was 4 for 5 with three triples, two runs and two RBI. Romain slugged a three-run homer. Costello and Jones (3 for 4) both tripled. Starter Eli Gennis got the win, allowing two runs over five innings.
Chabot begins a three-game series against Cañada at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Hayward.
