CHABOT POWER SURGE CONTINUES
The Chabot baseball team extended its winning streak to 15 games with another smashing series sweep in the Coast-North Conference, this time over De Anza.
The Glads crushed De Anza 13-3, 13-1, 10-2 last week. They have the No. 2 longest active winning streak in the state for 3C2A baseball.
Chabot outscored outmanned De Anza and CCSF a combined 87-10 over their past six games.
But the big tests are finally arriving.
The first-place Glads (21-7, 9-0) will open a three-game set with longtime-rival College of San Mateo (18-9, 8-1) on Tuesday afternoon in San Mateo. Chabot will host the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Steve Friend Stadium, and travel to CSM on Saturday. The following week, Chabot will tangle with third-place Skyline (21-7, 7-2) in a three-game series.
In the series finale against De Anza on Saturday, red-hot Daniel Behrmann led Chabot's 14-hit attack, going 4 for 5 with three stolen bases and an RBI. Terrel Romain was 2 for 5 with a home run, triple and 3 RBI, and Nico Defazio was 2 for 4 with a triple and RBI.
Pitcher AJ Hathaway was outstanding, allowing one hit over four scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
In Game 2 of the series, Chabot cruised to a 13-1 win. Behrmann was 3 for 5 with two RBI and a double. Joseph Coupland, who ranks third in the conference with a .397 batting average, was 2 for 4 with four RBI, a home run and a double. Pitchers Ronna French (3 IP, 3 K, 1 hit) and Eli Gennis (4 IP, 1 hit, 5 K) were solid.
In Game 1 of the series, Defazio was 4 for 5 with three RBI and a home run. Romain was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI. Juan Pablo Manzo homered and had two RBI. Ronan French delivered a strong inning in relief, allowing no hits, no runs and fanning one.
