The Chabot football team has something pretty special to look back on after an authoritative road win over Cabrillo.
The Glads (2-1) outscored their hosts 23-0 in the second half to take a 39-21 win in nonconference play.
"It was a tale of two halves. All three phases (offense, defense, and specials) contributed to the win!" Chabot head coach Eric Fanene stated after his second straight triumph. "We scored in specials and had great field position due to great punts by Nate Vera and great coverage pinning our opponent back on punts and kickoffs."
Quarterback Nakrawesh Harris, an Irvington High graduate, (12-28-145, 2 TDs) and running back Daemon Duran (178 total yards, 3 TDs), a Sierra-Manteca product, came up big, plus the defense held firm when it counted.
"We created turnovers on both specials and defense," Fanene said. "We ran the ball effectively and passed efficiently. Our players did their best handling the adversity presented by Cabrillo (they had 19 penalties). Good win, but we have a ways to grow, mature and get better."
Harris and Duran hooked up on a 70-yard pass play for a TD in the second quarter. The second half was all Chabot as Duran scored on a 1-yard run, Donovan Umeki (Livermore) booted a 33-yard field goal, Deven Lee Salinas (Castro Valley had a 24-yard TD reception, and Duran tacked in a 25-yard TD run.
Chabot (2-1) will host Gavilan (1-2) at 1 pm Saturday.
