GLADS SHOW TALENT, GRIT ON COURT
Success keeps coming for the talented Chabot men’s basketball
In action last week, the Glads, ranked No. 11 in the CCCMBCA state poll, had a 2-1 mark against tough competition, upending Antelope Valley 100-95 in overtime in the Skip Robinson Tournament, falling to No. 9 Santiago Canyon 100-97 in overtime in the Pasadena Crossover Tournament, and bouncing back to top Ventura 71-68 in Pasadena.
Against Ventura, impressive freshman Zion Yeargin paced the Gladiators (5-1) with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Marcellus Edwards, a sophomore guard, added 14 points, five assists and five rebounds.
Oz Savage added 13 points, six boards and two blocks.
Aaiden Burris tacked on 11 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Against Antelope Valley, the Glads earned their fourth straight win to open the season.
Yeargin, MVP of Chabot's John L. Wagoner Classic, came up big with 27 points, nine rebounds and four assists. He was 3 for 6 from 3-point range.
Savage had 16 points and Edwards had 15. Amani Johnson added 12 points, going 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
Christian Wilson had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Aaiden Burris had 10 points.
In the high-powered showdown against Santiago Canyon, Yeargin had a strong effort with 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Edwards had 17 points.
