GLADS KEEP BOUNCING BACK
The Chabot men's basketball team continued to show resilience early in conference play. Last week, the Glads bounced back from a tough loss to State No. 1 Las Positas with a win over Skyline, 63-49, in the Coast-North, outscoring the visitors by 11 in the second half. Freshman Zion Yeargin led the way with 19 points against the Trojans, and sophomore Marcellus Edwards added 14 points. Oz Savage had seven rebounds, three steals, four blocks, and seven points.
Chabot, ranked No. 18 in the state, improved to 13-5 and 2-2, while No. 17 Skyline fell to 14-4, 2-2, the two teams in a four-team logjam for third place.
Even in the loss to Las Positas, 79-73, the Glads rallied from a 20-point deficit to nearly pull off an upset. Chabot also bounced back from a conference-opening loss to Ohlone, 73-70, with a win over De Anza in overtime, 91-86.
Yeargin leads the Glads in scoring at 19 points a game, shooting 42 percent from 3-point range and 52 percent from the floor. Edwards (13.2 ppg), the point guard, and Amani Johnson (12.4 ppg, 87 percent free throws) are enjoying strong seasons.
Chabot will travel to College of San Mateo on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and will visit State No. 2 CCSF on Friday, Jan. 24.
