CHABOT MEN CRUSH CSM
The Chabot men's basketball team split games last week and caught up with a good friend
On the court, the Glads, ranked 18th in the state, walloped College of San Mateo 102-77 in the Coast-North on Jan. 22 as four Chabot players had at least 14 points. They also fell on the road against State No. 2 City College of San Francisco 96-74 on Jan. 24.
The Glads also had a great time out on Jan. 23 watching last season's team MVP Zach Broadous, on scholarship at Cal Poly Pomona, compete at Cal State East Bay. He scored 11 points with two threes and going 5 of 6 on free throws, in a 67-65 loss to the host Pioneers.
Broadous, an All-State guard last season, is a biology major. The Glads thanked Cal State East Bay assistant coach Mikey Eggleton and head coach Bryan Rooney for having them over and wished Broadous well.
Against CSM, the Gladiators received strong efforts across the board and sizzled from 3-point range. Aaiden Burris came up big with 21 points and eight rebounds, going 7 of 11 from beyond the arc.
Amani Johnson had 20 points, three rebounds, and three steals, going 2 of 4 on 3-pointers.
Zion Yeargin added 15 points, six assists and three steals. He was 2 of 4 on threes.
Marcellus Edwards had a double-double with 14 points, 10 assists and two steals.
Oz Savage contributed seven points, eight boards and two blocks. He led the starters against CCSF with 11 points, six rebounds and four blocks.
The Glads (14-6, 3-3) have won three of their last five games, falling only to State No. 1 Las Positas and No. 2 CCSF over the stretch. They host Canada at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 and travel to Ohlone on Jan. 31.
