Bio
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Thompson, Vice President of Academic Services; Dale Wagoner, Dean of Health, Kinesiology, and Athletics; and Jeff Drouin, Director of Athletics, for the opportunity to serve as the full-time Kinesiology and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Chabot College. I am both humbled and excited to take on this role for the Chabot College Gladiators.
I believe that Chabot College represents one of the premier coaching opportunities in Northern California. Our journey to elevate the Men’s Basketball program will focus on the retention, graduation, and transfer success of our student-athletes. Competing in the Coast Conference North, the top conference for basketball in the region, we aim to contend for the conference title and state championship each year.
In my five years at Chabot College, our team has achieved four consecutive winning seasons, made the playoffs each year, and recorded back-to-back seasons with over 20 wins, culminating in an overall record of 88-57. In 2023, I had the honor of becoming the first African American head coach to win a Coast Conference North title, and I was recognized as Coach of the Year—marking the first conference title for the Gladiators in 18 years.
Before joining Chabot College, I spent ten years at Merritt College in Oakland, where the Thunderbirds posted an overall record of 160-130. During my five years as head coach, I achieved a record of 78-64, led the team to two State Final Four appearances, and secured four state playoff berths along with seven winning seasons.
Born and raised in Oakland, I was proud to be a student-athlete on the 1999-2000 Chabot College Men’s Basketball team that reached the state playoffs under the late Coach Tony Costello. I look forward to building upon this legacy and guiding our student-athletes to success both on and off the court.
