CHABOT IN THICK OF SOCCER RACE
Chabot sophomore Logan Smith delivered a standout effort.
The Chabot men's soccer team took its game on the road and battled Foothill to a 1-1 draw and fell to State No. 2 Evergreen Valley 1-0 in cross-conference action.
Against Foothill on Friday, Nov. 1, the Glads (7-5-5, 3-3-4) took an early lead on an Eloy Sierra goal assisted by Luke Carlson. Foothill (8-6-4, 2-4-3) tied it in about the 30th minute.
"Good to get a point on the road in this conference, as always, but a bummer we couldn't get more out of that one," Chabot coach Geoff Aguiar said.
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Glads played typically tremendous defense against Evergreen Valley, ranked No. 1 in NorCal, but couldn't put one in on the attack.
"We were right in the game with them. Our defensive effort was what it has been all season," Aguiar said. "They were able to score in the 83rd minute to win 1-0. Definitely hurt to not get a tie out of that effort."
Chabot sophomore Logan Smith delivered a standout effort.
"He is a model great teammate, always brings positivity and effort," Aguiar said. "Ended up starting this game at the last minute, filling in for an injured Alejandro Juarez, and he was fantastic defensively, earned our player of the game award.
Right in the playoff mix with three games left, the Glads will face tough opponents the rest of the way. They will host both West Valley at 3 p.m. Friday and Skyline at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, before closing the regular season at City College of San Francisco. All three opponents are top 15 in the state — West Valley and Skyline are in the NorCal top 4. It will be a tight race to the end.
