CHABOT WOMEN PLAY STELLAR DEFENSE IN ROAD TRIUMPH OVER RIVAL SAN FRANCISCO
How sweet it is!
The Chabot women's basketball team played tenacious defense in an inspired 54-35 win over host City College of San Francisco on Jan. 31, the Gladiators' first victory over the Rams since Chabot's 2014-15 state championship season under head coach Mark Anger.
"It was a great win on the road and we are playing the best basketball of the season," Anger said on Monday.
Standout sophomore Zakiya Mahoney paced the Gladiators with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nyah Willis also had 14 points and six rebounds.
How good was Chabot's defense?
The Gladiators turned the game into a blowout with a devastating 20-7 surge in the third quarter. Chabot limited CCSF to 18.5% shooting from the floor (12 of 65). The Gladiators shot 42% from the floor in avenging a 69-68 loss to CCSF in the first round of Coast-North play.
The Gladiators (18-6, 4-2) and CCSF (16-7, 4-2) enter the week tied for third place in the conference, both two games behind Skyline (17-7, 6-0). Chabot will get another shot at Skyline on Friday in Hayward at 5 p.m.
In Friday's win, Chabot's Kayla Tahaafe nearly had a double-double with 12 points and eight boards.
