ROAD-TESTED GLADS READY FOR COAST OPENER
The Glads (8-8) will host Ohlone (3-10) in their Coast-North opener at 5 p.m. Jan 8
After a tough preseason schedule, the Chabot women's basketball team enters Coast-North Conference play ranked No. 11 in the North region and No. 25 in the state.
The Glads (8-8) will host Ohlone (3-10) in their Coast-North opener at 5 p.m. Wednesday, preceding the Chabot-Ohlone men's conference opener at 7 p.m.
"We have played a very challenging preseason. Six of our losses have been to teams in the Top 25 in the state," Chabot head coach Mark Anger said.
The Glads are led by Nia Hunter, averaging 12.5 points a game, and Lex Pletschette (14.2 ppg.).
The team suffered a blow when top scorer and rebounder Kaida Angelo was injured in a loss to Moorpark on Dec. 20, and she is being evaluated.
Freshman Kenya Craven, out of Dublin, stepped up against Mt. SAC, #2 in the state, in Kaida's absence with 23 points. The Glads fell 71-55 to Mt. SAC in the Moorpark tournament with an excellent effort overall.
"We expect big things from her," Anger said of Craven. "We enter league play with it being wide open. We expect to compete for the championship. The tough preseason has prepared us well for the challenges of the Coast-North."
Chabot also travels to Butte in nonconference action on Friday, Jan. 10.
