The Chabot wrestling team walloped San Joaquin Delta 42-9 in a Big 8 Conference dual match on Oct. 2.
The Glads flexed some muscle up and down the lineup.
At 125 pounds, Chabot's Abdullah Noori won by technical fall. At 133, Ricardo Velazquez lost in overtime.
Azim Azimy (141) won by major decision. Esmatullah Sultani (149) won his first college match by fall. Jackson Morgan (157) prevailed by technical fall. Felipe Legaspi (165) lost by fall.
Abdul Meskienyar (174) won by major decision. Treyvon Abury (184) won by fall. Francisco Espinoza (197) won by forfeit. Cameron Madoshi (285) triumphed by forfeit.
WEST HILLS INVITATIONAL
Chabot also took 14th place at the West Hills Invitational on Sept. 28, in probably the toughest tournament of the year having all but two teams in the state.
Each weight class had brackets of 64 people, and the tournament lasted over 12 hours.
Chabot coach Michael Grijalba said his team "fought hard" and some wrestlers maxed out at the number of matches they were able to wrestle in one day.
Notable wrestlers were Azim Azimy (149), Feroze Azimy (197) and Francisco Espinoza (197), who were one match away from placing.
Jackson Morgan (157) took second place at the end of a long day of competition, dropping a close decision to a Mt. SAC wrestler in the finals. The same two are expected to meet again in the state finals in December.
